Where sacred lakes meet the quiet side of Annapurna
North Annapurna Base Camp lies on the northern side of the Annapurna massif in the Myagdi district of Nepal's Dhaulagiri region, a quieter alternative to the classic Annapurna Base Camp route. The area is also home to Pancha Kunda, meaning "five lakes", a group of high-altitude lakes revered by Hindu pilgrims and local communities. Their remote setting, framed by steep ridges and distant snow-capped peaks, gives the area both a spiritual and a wild, untouched character.
The journey starts from Beni, the district headquarters of Myagdi, a bustling town on the banks of the Kali Gandaki River. From Beni, a jeep road leads to Humkhola, the starting point of the trek. The trail climbs through hillside villages, terraced fields and dense forest, gradually opening into alpine landscapes as you gain altitude. Along the way you will pass Guras Dada, Phutphutey Waterfall and the trail settlements of Gufaphat and Bhusketmela.
Because this route sees far fewer trekkers than the popular circuits, it offers a quiet and authentic experience of rural western Nepal, with ample chances to meet local people, learn about their way of life and enjoy unspoiled nature.
